Are you looking for a meaningful way to give back while enjoying the outdoors? The Kids on Public Lands volunteer opportunity offers you a chance to help children experience nature in the San Bernardino National Forest. The Anaheim Cops 4 Kids (C4K) and the Anaheim YMCA organize this event, bringing 100 kids to explore the forest—50 boys on Saturday and 50 girls on Sunday.
What Happens at the Kids on Public Lands Volunteer Opportunity?
During the event, kids split into two groups. One group enjoys an exciting trail ride, while the other participates in hands-on activities at the Discovery Center. After lunch, the groups switch activities so every child gets a complete experience. Many of the children, ages 8 to 12, visit a forest for the first time during this event.
The Thrill of the Trail Ride
The trail ride is often the most exciting part of the day for the children. Each child rides in the front seat of a 4WD vehicle, chatting with the driver and enjoying the scenic views. They also get to speak over the CB radio, adding an extra layer of excitement. This unique experience is at the heart of the Kids on Public Lands volunteer opportunity.
